Reflections • National PTA Arts Program

This year’s theme is
“What My Culture Means To Me.”

Reflections is a National PTA arts recognition program and competition that helps students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful not only in school but in life.

 

Entries are due Tuesday, October 27, and every submission will be displayed at Family Art Night on Friday, November 13.

Art Categories

Six categories are accepted. Each student may submit up to one entry per category.

  • Literature — works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, short stories and lyrics.
  • Music Composition — original musical composition, with or without words.
  • Photography — color or black and white; included techniques are photogram, negative sandwich and multiple exposure.
  • Visual Arts — drawing, painting in tempera, oil, acrylic, watercolor and t-shirt paints, computer generated art, two-dimensional collage, printmaking, needlework and leather tooling.
  • Film/Video — original works, with or without sound, of animation, narrative, documentary, experimental or music video/film.
  • Choreography/Dance — originally choreographed dance composition.

Submission Instructions

Visit WA State PTA Reflections to learn more about the art categories and associated rules under the section “Student Entry Guidelines.” The student entry packet includes information about what digital technology and software is acceptable and what is not, including A.I.

 

  • Physical artwork — you or your child may bring it to school on October 27, along with the completed entry form. We will be collecting art in the front foyer from 9:00 to 9:30 am and again from 3:30 to 3:50 pm.
  • Electronic entries (film/video, choreography/dance) — load them onto a labeled USB drive and drop them off with the completed entry form on October 27 in the front foyer, 9:00 to 9:30 am or 3:30 to 3:50 pm.
  • Can’t make October 27? Either of you may bring the physical work or labeled USB drive, along with the completed entry form, to the front office and leave it with a member of the office staff any time from October 22 through October 26.
Hard Deadline
No entries can be accepted after October 27 at 3:50 pm. Anything dropped off after that will be returned unentered. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions.

All participants must submit a signed and complete entry form with their work.

Judging

Every Entry Is Displayed
Family Art Night • Friday, November 13

Please join us in celebrating student creativity at this fun arts and crafts event where students and parents can create a whole new project together.

The primary focus of Reflections is to celebrate the creativity of our students, which is why we are proud to display every submission at Family Art Night on Friday, November 13th.

 

In addition, IVE submissions will be reviewed by a volunteer panel of judges who evaluate the work on creative ability and interpretation of the theme. Students whose work is chosen to move to the district level will be notified at the email address provided on the entry form on or before November 9. Works chosen at the district level may then proceed to state-level competition. All judging results are final.
