Annual IVE Culture Night! Friday,
January 20th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Sharing
our Family
Treasures! Dear IVE families, It's time again to celebrate the diversity of our community – the 5th annual Culture Night at IVE! Your family stories are our school's greatest treasures! Everyone's story is a treasure. Encourage your children to go on a "treasure hunt" over the winter break. Children should look for "family treasures" while visiting with relatives by asking to hear family stories. Encourage your relatives to share stories from the past with your children and any photos that go along with them. After winter break, children should bring their stories (and pictures) to their teacher along with the attached form. We encourage photocopies of pictures. All items should be labeled with your child's name and teacher. In early January there will be several sessions after school during which children may be videotaped telling their stories. The stories will be shared at Culture Night. You may also contribute to the event by: Having a booth. Join with other families or just your own to share a culture. Cultures can be represented by posters, maps, traditional clothing (worn or displayed), household items, art, music, pictures, postcards, food etc. Our theme this year is "Family Treasures". Performing. Can you do a traditional dance? Sing a song in another language? Your student (with or without the rest of the family) is invited to do a short (must be under two minutes) performance at Culture Night. Watch this on IVE newscast to see how to send your treasure to a "treasure box" in the office!
